The first year of Senior School is about building on students’ experiences and preparing them for their final years.

Year 10 Program

In Year 10 at Carey, we build on the experiences and learning from Middle School to prepare independent, motivated and engaged students who are ready to take on the VCE or IB in their final years of school.

The learning program is structured to empower students to choose their own pathways while expanding on the core units they began in Middle School. Students can choose to pursue a huge range of subjects throughout the year, helping them to find their strengths and interests and guide their decisions for Years 11 and 12.

Core subjects

Students choose at least one subject from each of the following learning areas each semester.

Carey Zero

The Year 10 core learning program also includes Carey Zero. This year-long subject is an exciting opportunity for all students to learn about environmental sustainability and our responsibility for the land we live on, and includes a three-week expedition to Far North Queensland.

Elective subjects

Students choose at least one subject from each of the following learning areas each semester.

*Languages subjects are year-long studies and account for one elective subject per semester.
